Gordie Howe Memorial Fitness Park
In 2018 the Waskesiu Foundation partnered with the Waskesiu Recreation Association to construct a new outdoor fitness park – the “Gordie Howe Memorial Fitness Park”.
Our Fitness Park was dedicated on August 5, 2018 by Murray Howe, son of hockey legend Gordie Howe. Gordie Howe lived, worked, golfed and fished at Waskesiu during his hockey career and called Waskesiu his “favourite place on earth”. During his early NHL years, Gordie spent many summers in the Park - working at the Waskesiu Golf Course, and fishing with one of his on-ice rivals – legendary goaltender Johnny Bower.

The fitness park is a tribute to “Mr. Hockey”, who in life symbolized the best in physical fitness, human kindness, humility, and compassion.
A new floor of athletic tiles was installed by the Waskesiu Foundation in the spring of 2019 giving users a more solid footing, and protecting joints from impacts.
The facility is available to the general public for free, and is intended for adult use only. Additional exercise equipment, including kettle balls, is also available free of charge.

Stanley Thompson
Lawn Bowling Green
